Which research category does this study belong to? (select all that apply)
Does your study include a focus on addressing (Check all that apply):
1. Women's health or primarily recruits women - Research on the role of sex and gender in health and disease, and diseases, disorders, and conditions that primarily affect women. These may include, but are not limited to autoimmune diseases, ovarian and breast cancers, maternal-fetal health, influence of sex and gender on nicotine and opioid use, women and heart disease, etc.) 2. Pediatric health or primarily recruits pediatric populations - Conduct and support research that is directly related to diseases, disorders, and other conditions in children.
3. Underrepresented populations - refers to a subgroup whose representation is disproportionately low relative to their numbers in the general population, or in the case of clinical trials or patient registries, disease population. For example, in biomedical, clinical, behavioral, and social science identified underrepresented populations include people with disabilities, people from disadvantaged backgrounds, and underrepresented racial and ethnic groups such as blacks or African Americans, Hispanics or Latinos, American Indians or Alaskan Natives, and Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders. (source: NIH: https://toolkit.ncats.nih.gov/glossary/underrepresented-population/
4. Health disparities - A h ealth disparity is a health difference that adversely affects disadvantaged populations in comparison to a reference population, based on one or more health outcomes such as higher incidence and/or prevalence of disease, premature or excessive mortality from specific health conditions, greater global burden of disease, etc. All populations with health disparities are socially disadvantaged due in part to being subject to racist or discriminatory acts and are underserved in health care. (source: NIMHD https://www.nimhd.nih.gov/resources/understanding-health-disparities/minority-health-and-health-disparities-definitions.html )

Acknowledgement and Authorship Policy Acknowledgements
The Biostatistical Collaboration and Consulting Core (BCCC) is a resource for cutting-edge biostatistical expertise for research. Members of BCCC provide biostatistical support to all faculty, research staff and students, and contribute to all phases of research, including statistical study design, data analysis, and interpretation of quantitative findings . All BCCC biostatistician efforts are partially supported by the University of Miami Clinical and Translational Science Institute, under the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences, National Institutes of Health, Award Number UM1TR004556. Use of BCCC services constitutes an agreement for acknowledgement of the work provided by the appropriate biostatistician in publications, presentations (e.g., poster, oral, video), reports, and websites. Proper acknowledgement is a visible measure of the impact of this resource and is essential for continued funding and support.
How to Acknowledge:
"We acknowledge resources/support from the Miami Clinical and Translational Science Institute, which is supported by the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences, National Institutes of Health, Award Number UM1TR004556."
The principal investigator should provide BCCC and CTSI with a copy of the final publication, which includes research conducted in collaboration with the biostatistician(s).
Authorship
Publications resulting from biostatistical work should merit co-authorship: the order of authorship is up to the principal investigator/primary author. Authorship is to be considered if collaboration was provided for:
conceptualization and study design biostatistical data analysis write-up or revision of intellectual content in the version for publication (See recommendations by ICMJE @ http://www.icmje.org/recommendations/browse/roles-and-responsibilities/defining-the-role-of-authors-and-contributors.html)
Co-authorship and acknowledgment demonstrate the utilization of the Biostatistics support and are indicators of its value to your research.
Timeline policies Advanced contact relative to your deadline is necessary to allow sufficient time to address your needs. Below are minimum times required after the initial meeting:
Protocol Development/ Grant application - two months (may overlap with study design). It is optimal that biostatistical expertise be obtained as early as possible during proposal development. We need at least six weeks. If it is less than six weeks before the due date, we may only be able to perform some power calculations and write a few sentences. If it is a first submission and we don't have enough time, our contribution will demonstrate statistical involvement but will likely be criticized for being incomplete. If it is a re-submission, we need at least two months to improve your score. Protocol review (completed) - 2 weeks. We may find statistical issues, and if desired, BCCC can work further on the protocol. But more time would then be required. Statistical analysis - 3 weeks, depending on the type of analysis and study design. Abstracts - 2-3 weeks, depending on statistical analysis. We need at least one month. If it is less than a month before the deadline, we may be able to help you with some simple summary statistics. There will not be enough time to do anything complicated like multiple variable analysis. Manuscript preparation -1-2 weeks, after statistical analysis is complete. It usually takes more time than abstracts and grants. As the deadline approaches, the likelihood that we can provide helpful statistical support diminishes. On a case-by-case basis, we will refuse requests that are too close to the deadline to provide anything useful.
The BCCC is a cost center, and fee for work not supported through the Miami CTSI will be the responsibility of the investigator and will be determined based on scope of project and estimated workload.
